- Introduces principles of satellite-based surveying and presents Global Positioning System (GPS) as it is utilized in land surveying and the various components of the GPS technology and the techniques through which the GPS technology may be used in land surveys. Utilizes field surveys using the GPS equipment as part of the laboratory activities. [This course covers the same content as GIS 256. Credit will not be granted for both courses].Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week.

In lieu of attending class meetings students can choose to work with a mentor who is a licensed surveyor. Required documentation for this option must be submitted by the drop add date. Contact Chris Cartwright, Program Head for additional information. This course is conducted online in real time with scheduled meeting days and times as published in the class schedule, supplemented with online asynchronous (anytime) computer coursework. Student participation in the synchronous (real time) sessions may be required. Specific expectations regarding real time sessions will be communicated by the faculty. Students are required to have reliable and daily access to a computer and internet service. |
