ESL 42 - Reading II
Improves students' reading proficiency to a level that would allow students to function adequately in the ESL 52 reading class and other college courses. Credits are not applicable toward graduation.
Lecture 3-6 hours per week.
Prerequisite: Requires competency in reading as indicated by the placement test or by teacher recommendation from a previous level. Helps students improve their reading comprehension and vocabulary development.

This course may require proctored testing as described in the course syllabus. A student may request an alternative proctoring method, but the student will be responsible for any additional fees associated with the alternative method.

2nd twelve-week online course offered by NOVA Online. NOVA Online courses are 100% online requiring students to have reliable access to a computer and internet service. This class has no scheduled meeting times. Due dates can be found in the syllabus. Starts February 4. Prerequisite: An English placement recommendation for ESL Level 4 or successful completion of ESL 31/32/33. ESL 41 and ESL 42 are required to complete Level 4. Helps students improve their reading comprehension and vocabulary development. Improves students' reading proficiency to a level which would allow students to function adequately in ESL 52 and other college courses. Includes ways to detect organization, summarize, make inferences, draw conclusions, and introduces other advanced comprehension strategies. Credits are not applicable toward graduation.
