Course Description
Explores the cultural aspect and study of dance technique under tribal and social origins through an introduction to basic elements, forms, and styles of dance across different cultures around the world. Includes skills such as self-expression, dance routines, oral communication, and written communication, surrounding themes studied in the course.
Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 3 hours per week.

General Course Purpose
DAN 156 provides opportunities for students to actively participate in the study of multiple dance genres, such as African, Indian, and Chinese, derived from cultures around the world. Students will continue to learn movement vocabulary specific to certain genres.

- Identify and explain how elements of dance genres and themes from around the world (movement sequences, proper execution, and musicality) contribute to personal growth

- Identify and explain the origin and history of genres, themes, and cultural significance of dance from around the world
- Identify how learning and executing diverse dance genres and themes from around the world may increase technical and artistic versatility
- Identify and execute specific technical and artistic corrections given throughout the course
