- Explores the language of dance through an introduction to basic elements, forms, and styles across time. Develops techniques for observing analytically and critically. Reviews the historical development of the art of dance within the context of evolving societal structures.Lecture 3 hours. Total 3 hours per week.
3 credits - DAN 160 - Modern Dance
- Teaches the basic techniques of creative dance. Skills include self-expression, contemporary routines, dance forms, and basic choreography.Lecture 0-1hours. Laboratory 2-4 hours. Total 2-4 hours per week.
1-2 credits - DAN 161 - Dance Production I
- Focuses on creating a dance performance. Teaches the basic skills in creating and producing a dance. Includes lighting, costumes, music, and choreography. Part I of II.Lecture 0-1 hours. Laboratory 2-4 hours. Total 2-4 hours per week.
1-2 credits - DAN 163 - Jazz I
- Introduces dance through contemporary jazz movements. Includes floor stretches, isolations, dance patterns and locomotor movements. Part I of II.Lecture 0-1 hours. Laboratory 2-4 hours. Total 2-4 hours per week.

- Teaches the basic footwork, patterns, and coinciding body movements to various rhythms. Includes development of choreographic routines.Lecture 0-1 hours. Laboratory 2-4 hours. Total 2-4 hours per week.

- Teaches ballet as a discipline with correct alignment and ballet form. Expresses movement through traditional dance form with choreographic emphasis.Lecture 0-1hours. Laboratory 2-4 hours. Total 2-4 hours per week.
1-2 credits - DAN 167 - Dance Improvisation
- Explores the creation of spontaneous movement experiences with emphasis on self-expression and creature awareness. Includes improvisational techniques utilizing body awareness, use of the environment, and group dynamics.Lecture 0-1 hours. Laboratory 2-4 hours. Total 2-4 hours per week.
1-2 credits - DAN 171 - Ballroom Dance I
- Presents the basic step patterns, rhythmic patterns, and positions in ballroom dance. Includes techniques based upon traditional steps with basic choreographic patterns. Part I of II.Lecture 0-1 hours. Laboratory 2-4 hours. Total 2-4 hours per week.
1-2 credits - DAN 176 - Advanced Ballet
- Teaches advanced ballet as a discipline including correct alignment and ballet form. Utilizes a choreographic approach. Develops the skill and ability to present a complex dialogue between dancer and audience.Lecture 0-1 hours. Laboratory 2-4 hours. Total 2-4 hours per week.

- Explores the origin and development of modern dance, with concentration on American choreographers Doris Humphrey, Isadora Duncan and Martha Graham. Studies the cultural, intellectual and physical influences on the development of different techniques and movement theories as well as modern dance companies.Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.
3 credits - DAN 210 - Dance Composition I
- Studies the fundamentals of composition, and explores movement, space, time, rhythm, energy and force, and the choreographic devices for creating finished work. Increases personal movement vocabulary and style and presents choreographic structures with an emphasis on creating solo and small group dance compositions. Prerequisite: DAN 167.Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.
3 credits - DAN 261 - Advanced Dance Production
- Provides students with an advanced application of the principles of dance production and its related fields and concepts. Includes practical production activities and projects in the areas of dance design, stage technology, and stage managementLecture 0-1 hours. Laboratory 2-4 hours. Total 2-4 hours per week.
